Eric K. James 2006 North Coast Pinot Noir

2006 Eric K. James North Coast Pinot Noir
This wine was created by co-fermenting fruit from two vineyards: the Daniela Block in the Carneros district of Sonoma and the Mike Abraham’s Ranch in southeastern Napa Valley.  Daniela block is a field blend of Roederer and Pommard clones trained on bilateral cordons. The Abraham vineyard is Dijon clone 777 planted on 1103P rootstock and trained to bilateral cordons in sandy loam soil.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of cherries, raspberries, Pinot Noir varietal character and vanilla. The flavors detected in the nose are also present in the mouth along with toasted oak. The tannins are fine grained and the wine is very bright with a deep garnet color.

Technical Information
13.8% alcohol. The fruit was inoculated with Assmannhausen yeast in open topped fermentors and punched down by hand twice daily. Malolactic fermentation was induced to enhance mouthfeel. The wine was aged for 20 months in French oak, one third of which was new Damy Vosges and Allier barrels. Only 220 cases were produced.
